Korean barley tea or as known as boricha is a refreshing drink we often see in Korean restaurants. It’s not really made from tea leaves, but from roasted barley grains. It is slightly sweet with nutty aftertaste. Making it yourself at home is super easy. And it has so many health benefits too (Google it!).
First, you need to roast your barley or you can also buy roasted one from the supermarket. I roasted it myself on a pan without oil. It would take around 10-15 minutes on low heat. Roast the barley until brown and remove from the heat.
Boil 1L of distilled water or mineral water and put 2-3 tablespoon of roasted barley. Cook on low to medium heat for 10-20 minutes. The longer you put the barley in, the stronger the flavour. Remove from the heat and cool. Don’t forget to refrigerate it as barley has some starch in it that will make the tea go bad if you don’t put in the fridge. Voila! There you have it, Korean Barley Tea!
